Will my pet still look recognisable?

The updated experience is designed to retain the pet's recognisable face, expression, markings, pose and framing. Creative results can still interpret small artistic details differently.

What is the difference between Standard and Creative Mode?

Standard Mode keeps the pet closer to the original photograph while styling the new scene. Creative Mode can transform both the pet and scene into one cohesive artwork.

Will every generation look exactly the same?

No. Details such as foliage, mist, brushstrokes and lighting can vary. The update focuses on making your main choices feel more consistent while keeping each result creative.

Meet the Rebuilt EditMyPet Scene and Style Builder

We have been working on one of our biggest behind-the-scenes improvements yet: a complete rebuild of the way EditMyPet brings scenes, styles and pet photos together.

The goal was simple. When you choose a scene and a style, the finished portrait should feel more like the result you imagined. Your pet should remain recognisable. The scene should feel complete and immersive. The style should look intentional. Most importantly, the final image should feel like one portrait rather than separate pieces placed together.

This update is the result of lots of testing, comparison and small refinements across the creation experience. Here is what has changed and what it means for your next creation.

A more consistent result, a more natural finish and more freedom to explore the scenes and styles you love.

What we wanted to improve

EditMyPet already offered a huge range of creative combinations, but some combinations were naturally more challenging than others. A very bold style might transform the background more strongly than the pet. A new foreground could occasionally meet the pet with an edge that felt too sharp. Some scenes looked beautiful but did not always feel as connected to the original photo as we wanted.

We wanted to make the whole experience feel more dependable without taking away the variation and surprise that make creating fun.

We focused on four things:

Keeping your pet recognisable and in the same pose and framing.
Making scenes feel fuller, more immersive and more connected to the pet.
Applying artistic styles more consistently.
Creating more natural lighting, depth and foreground detail.

Scenes with a stronger sense of place

A great scene should feel like somewhere your pet could actually be, not simply a decorative background.

The rebuilt experience gives more attention to the full setting around your pet. Waterfalls can flow through wet rocks and tropical plants. Studio scenes can carry consistent floors, light and shadows. Fantasy settings can surround the pet with atmosphere and detail while still keeping the portrait clear and easy to read.

The result is a stronger sense of place, with the scene continuing naturally around and behind your pet.

The rebuilt scene experience creates a fuller environment around the pet, with lighting, atmosphere and foreground detail working together.

Styles that feel more intentional

Styles such as oil painting, ink, pixel art and voxel art have their own materials, textures and visual character. We wanted those choices to feel clearer and more consistent throughout the finished image.

This is especially noticeable when Creative Mode is on. Instead of leaving a photographic-looking pet inside a strongly stylised world, Creative Mode can carry the selected artistic look across the pet as well. The portrait still aims to preserve the pet's recognisable face, pose, markings and place in the frame, but the whole image feels more like one cohesive piece of art.

The comparison below shows the original photo beside a new Voxel portrait. Chuck's pose and expression remain familiar, while the pet and scene now share the same playful, block-built finish.

Your pet is still the star

More creative freedom should not mean losing what makes the photo special.

The rebuild puts even more emphasis on keeping the same recognisable pet, expression, pose, scale and framing. If your cat is looking upwards, your finished portrait should keep that moment. If your dog has a distinctive patch, ear shape or expression, those details should continue to guide the result.

You can then decide how far the transformation should go:

Standard Mode keeps your pet close to the original photograph while rebuilding and styling the scene around it.
Creative Mode can transform the pet and scene together when you want a painting, illustration, model or other fully artistic result.

There is no right or wrong choice. Standard Mode is ideal when photographic detail matters most. Creative Mode is there when you want the entire portrait to feel like one artwork.

A more natural finished portrait

Small details can make a big difference to whether an edited portrait feels believable.

In the original photo used for these examples, the cat is sitting behind a low wall. Earlier generations could sometimes replace that wall with a foreground edge that followed the cat too tightly. Although the pet remained visible, the boundary could make it look as though the portrait had been cut out.

The updated experience gives the new scene a little more freedom to build natural foreground detail where something was already in front of the pet. A stone ledge, leaves, snow or furniture can now sit gently in front of part of the body, helping the portrait feel grounded in its new surroundings.

Important details such as the face, eyes, ears and expression remain protected. The change is about creating believable depth, not hiding or moving the pet.

More confidence when exploring new combinations

One of the best parts of EditMyPet is trying a scene with several different styles. The same Hidden Waterfall can become a dramatic cinematic portrait, a colourful oil painting or a tiny voxel world. The personality of the pet stays at the centre, but the mood can change completely.

The rebuild gives those combinations a more consistent foundation. Scenes and styles work together more clearly, while Standard and Creative Mode give you control over how much of the artistic treatment reaches the pet.

That means more time experimenting with the result you want and less time wondering why one part of the portrait feels different from the rest.

An update we will keep improving

AI image creation will always include some interpretation. Leaves, brushstrokes, mist, reflections and small background details can change from one result to the next. That variation is part of what makes each creation unique.

This rebuild is about making the choices that matter feel more dependable: your pet, the selected scene, the chosen style and the amount of creative transformation you asked for.

It is also part of an ongoing series of improvements. We will keep reviewing real creations, listening to feedback and refining the experience as new styles and scenes are added.
